Have you ever received an email notification from Dynamics CRM and wanted to access that record immediately instead of having to go find it within MS CRM? Another great new feature in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Update Rollup 5 is the ability to add hyperlinks to email notifications via workflow. All entities now include a Dynamic URL field that can be added to any email notification by using the Insert Hyperlink feature.
The steps below will walk you through the steps to add the hyperlink to the email.
1. Select the "Set Properties" button of the email you wish to create or modify
2.Place your cursor where you would like to have the link inserted and then select the "Insert Hyperlink" button
3. Enter in the text you would to display in the email in the Text to Display field and then select "Record URL (Dynamic)" for the Dynamic Values list.
Note, you could add any URL to the email by using this feature as well.
But for that we have to select IE as a default browser. 🙁
Thanks for this tutorial.
I see this in the email template form assistant, but cannot seem to add this value to an advanced find export. Was this an oversight by MS, am I missing something, or is there a technical reason this isn't allowed?
Thanks!
Hi Eric -- correct - unfortunately the value (the GUID) is not available in an advanced find export. there are a couple work arounds, but the one we have used a few times is to create a new field such as po_guid, then a super simple plugin that simply populates this new text field with the guid of the entity.
Hi,
Tx for this short tutorial, but one question. I did the above, but when the email arrives in my Inbox I see the same hyperlink as in the email message from within the workflow;
In the mail in Outlook: Test
In the mail message from the workflow: Test{Record URL(Dynamic)(Account)}
Anyone an idea? Does it have to do with my Outlook 2010 settings (it is showing HTML)
Tx in advance
KR,
Erik
Thanks for this. I have tried adding a URL link to a document folder where we keep related quotes, but this doesn't want to work. Can you only assign URLs as opposed to hyperlinks?
Record URL is populated great for the notifications. However, we have IFD setup for our CRM 2011. And when users get email notifications, the Record URL is included as https://organizationnameurl:443//.... Is there a way to change it so that it uses our Internet Facing Deployment URL?
Interestingly, adding a hyperlink does not seem to work in Chrome (CRM 2011 UR 16, Chrome 34.0.1847.116 m)
Anyone know why on my CRM this Record URL(Dynamic) is not available. I mean not listed on my form assistant?
Hi John, did you try to do the same in a post ? I'd like to insert a hyperlink in a post generated by a workflow.
