Converting Owner Teams to Access Teams in Dynamics CRM 2013

Post Author: Joe D365 |

One of the great new features for those Administrating Dynamics CRM 2013 or 2015 is the ability to create Access Teams to share records on a more granular level. CRM 2013 makes it easy to convert existing owner teams to access teams. This is particularly useful if you are upgrading from CRM 2011 to 2013 and want to convert some of your existing teams to access teams.

It is important to carefully plan how you will implement access teams into your CRM organization and it may make sense to convert some of your existing teams. For example, if you need individual based access for records, or if you want owners of records to be able to define access for other users via sharing, then implementing an access team is a good idea.

To convert an existing owner team to an access team:

First, navigate to the Teams area on the Administration page under settings and select the team that you wish to convert.

Note: Before you convert the team make sure all existing security roles are removed from the team

You will see the following note before the team is converted:

After clicking ok CRM will convert the record. After conversion the team type for the record will now be access:

You are done and you have successfully converted an owner team to an access team! For more information about access teams read our blog post Security and Access Teams in CRM 2013.

Happy CRM'ing!
