Rolling Up Activities to Parent Accounts and PowerOneView in Dynamics CRM 2011

Post Author: Joe D365 |

We know that Microsoft Dynamics CRM allows us to create a variety of Activities for every entity. So, for example, if we create a Phone Call or Email activity regarding any opportunity, quote, order, or invoice (or any other entity related to an Account), all those activities roll up to the Account also. However, did you know that if that account record has a parent account, then the activities roll up to the parent account too?

Let's see this in action!

We have created a dummy account called Shiny Objects, Inc. This account has a parent account.

Now, for this account, we will create an opportunity. We will also create a couple of activities for that opportunity.

So, now we have two activities for the opportunity.

If we now go to the account for this opportunity, we see these activities listed there.

But now, if you go to this account's parent account, you will see these activities listed there too.

Rolling up activities to the parent account is easier than rolling up your morning crepe!

Note: Only activities with a "Recipient" field are rolled up. Thus, a Task activity that does not have a Recipient field will not roll up to the parent account.

Let's take this a step further. If you want Activities AND Notes to roll up to the parent account as well, then go right ahead and install PowerOneView. PowerOneView is an add-on that shows you every record that's associated with an Account (or Contact, Opportunity, Case or Lead) and its child accounts.

In the following example, PowerObjects is the parent account to From Streets to Trails Bike Shop. If you go to PowerOneView on the PowerObjects record, not only do you see all the activities and related records associated with this account, but also notes and activities associated with the child account too!

If you think that's cool, there's no excuse for you not see for yourself, because PowerOneView free to download and try for 30 days.

Shazaam! Happy CRM'ing.
