How to Run the Custom Code Validation Tool in Dynamics CRM

Post Author: Joe D365 |

Microsoft released the Custom Code Validation Tool to help us identify JavaScript that will need to be updated to be supported with the newest versions of CRM.

  • Here is the version to run if your organization is on CRM 2011.
  • Here is the version to run if your organization is on CRM 2013.

If you are visiting us in the future, try searching for "Custom Code Validation " to find the most current version of the tool.

To run the tool:

  1. Double click the downloaded file to extract the contents. (There is a handy ReadMe file that describes what the tool is looking for).
  2. Go to the Solutions area of your CRM organization and choose Import.
  3. Import the .zip file that was extracted in the first step.
  4. When the import is complete, click Publish and then close the import window when it's finished.
  5. In the Solutions list you will now see Custom Code Validation Tool. Double click it, and then click the button to launch the tool.

The tool will return a list of all of your Web Resources in the top left corner, the script in the middle pane and the test results in the bottom pane. A key in the top right corner will tell you how to read the results.

6. Go through each web resource in the list. The items in red have to be resolved. The items in blue impact cross browser support, but should work in Internet Explorer.

That's all it takes to run the custom code validation tool for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. If you would like PowerObjects' assistance in remediating JavaScript issues for your upgrade, please contact your Account Manager or our support staff.

Happy CRM'ing!

  1. Hi, Does the tool return a list of all Web Resources?
I imported it into my CRM 2011 instance and the tool did not show up all the web resources (it showed up only 24 out of the 50 web resources I had in my system).
Whatever web resources that came up were a mix of both Managed & Unmanaged.
    Any solutions?

  2. Do we need UR 12 to be installed in the CRM 2011 server to run the Custom code validation tool 2013?
