Unified Service Desk (USD) is a solution framework. It is highly configurable, which provides a solid foundation for call center management. In one of our past blog posts, we talk about foundational USD strategies and did a highly technical configuration walkthrough. Today’s blog will focus on getting you up and running with USD as quickly as possible.

Get Up and Running with these USD Setup Basics

Our goal for today is to cover three key tasks:

  1. Setting up USD on the server, including installing sample configurations
  2. Setting up the USD Client
  3. Logging into the USD Client

Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Task 1: Setting up USD on the Server

The first task in USD setup is to download the bits, install the managed solutions, and install the sample configurations for a fast start.

Start by installing the Microsoft Dynamics managed solutions using USD Package Deployer 2016:

Click the Download button:

Choose the first option, PackageDeployer.exe:

Next, run the downloaded PackageDeployer file and select a folder into which to extract the files:

Launch the Package Deployer:

Enter your CRM Org, user credentials, and other pertinent information:

Select the target CRM org if needed:

Once connected, you will have four “Import Packages” to choose from:

You can select one of the first three depending on the level of sample configuration and data you desire. For the purposes of this tutorial, select the second option.

Follow the prompts and ensure that the install succeeded:

Task 2: Setting up the USD Client

Download the USD Client install files (select the version that is appropriate for your machine):

Click the Download button and select the appropriate file (64 for a 64 bit system, i386 for a 32 bit system):

You may need to first install prerequisites, such as .NET Framework and Windows Identity Foundation.

Run the downloaded file, follow install wizard prompts, and ensure that the install succeeded:

Task 3: Logging into the USD Client

Launch the USD Client:

At launch, the USD Client will look to the Windows user’s credential store. If the Windows user has no stored credentials on the local machine, the USD Client will request login information, including server and user account details.

If credentials were stored previously, this screen can be accessed when launching USD by clicking on the “Change Credentials” link on the USD splash screen. This is helpful for changing users or servers within the same Windows logon.

Enter your CRM Org, user credentials, and other pertinent information:
