As a System Administrator, it is easy to create fields and add them on a form. Making the form look neat and presentable, however, takes a little more effort. In today’s blog we will go over a few tips that will help you get the aesthetics just right!
Increase Field Length – You want to make sure that the field name does not get cut off. You can expand the field label width so that more characters are displayed. This saves the user from having to guess what the last word or last few letters are.
Add Descriptions to Fields – If the name of the field is not self-explanatory, then instead of adding additional information to the field name, add a description! This is referred to as a tool tip and is displayed when you hover your cursor over the field name.
Balance Length vs. Width – It’s important to understand from your user what they prefer, either scrolling down the page or having three columns with more information. If they do not mind scrolling and want the data to be spread out and neatly aligned, add fewer columns.
Get the Sub-grid Spacing Right – Understand from your user if they prefer to click and move pages on a sub-grid or if they want more records displayed onload of the form. Keep in mind that if you increase the number of rows on the sub-grid, when there is no data present it will appear as a big empty space.
Develop a Field Naming Nomenclature – Consistency in the way you name your fields makes data more intuitive and easily interpretable. Come up with a naming nomenclature and stick to it!
