If you have ever wondered how to best create product properties in Dynamics CRM 2015, then this is the blog for you! We have created a blog to showcase how Product Properties can be added to a Product Family within the Families & Products section of the Product Catalog. See the steps below to become a Product Properties wizard!
1) Go to Settings and click on Product Catalog. Four options will be presented to you.
2) Select Families and Products to reach the screen below.
3) The status of the Product Family must be Draft or Under Revision to allow new Properties to be added. If the product family is currently in an Active Status it can be revised to allow for changes.
4) Once the Product Family is created and saved new Properties can be created.
When creating a New Property, the Property must be given a logical name. The name of the Property should define what type of information it will hold. It can be set as Read-Only, a Required field or set as Hidden. The Property must have a Data Type defined. The available options for the Property Types are:
Each Property Type(s) have unique options available within setup, including the ability to set default values. Below are the available options for each type.
Option Set (the Property must be saved before Option Set Items can be added):
Decimal:
Floating Point Number:
Single Line of Text:
Whole Number:
When a new Product is added to the Product Family, the Properties that were setup are inherited. If the Product is not tied to a Product Family it cannot have Product Properties.
The ability to Override the inherited Property is allowed at the Product level.
The Override will allow changes to be made to the Property that were inherited from the Product Family.
The Properties are carried with the Product when added to an Opportunity.
The Property details can be modified on the Opportunity. If the missing red asterisk is displayed, the Properties require values to be entered.
If the green check is displayed, the Properties do not require attention, however they can be modified if needed.
We hope this information on creating Product Properties was helpful. Visit our blog page for more Dynamics CRM information!
Happy CRM’ing!
Is it possible to add lookup fields in the properties? Such as Fiscal Period? Thanks!
I'd like to know about adding lookup fields in properties as well. Tim, did you ever figure this out?
Hi Isaac - It is not as far as I know, but you can use free form text fields and then have someone that knows code write a plug-in to reference the text to the lookup field. It's never easy, is it? 🙂
Is it possible to include this properties in a report ? Thanks!!
Yep - this is doable as the data data is available. We may need a custom srs report to get the properties in a report.
In such a situation the product price may vary based on properties. Is that possible
Hi - This is doable, but you will need a custom plugin. For example, if yoru product has color as an property and the red is more then blue, your two choices are: make two separate products with separate prices. OR use a plug to adjust the price when we change the product property.
Hi
Is it possible to show properties value in a word template ?
Hi
Everything below line:
"The Properties are carried with the Product when added to an Opportunity."
is not clear. I simply want to add some properties and then these properties values shall be entered by user when a new product is created. Any help will be most appreciated.
What are the benefits of having product properties vs. creating attribute fields on the product entity?
