The 21st century has seen some really great technological innovations (as well as constantly deteriorating quality of music and teenage delinquency, but we digress!) which have made the jobs of common folk a lot easier. But every rose has its thorn, and technology is no exception to this rule. If you are a system administrator at an organization, you know that you have a lot going on, although everyone else thinks that you are just a troll guarding the company servers from teenage noob hackers who have nothing better to do.

As a system administrator, you are always looking at performance counters. What’s failing, what’s not? What’s taking so much CPU time? Failed requests, failed reports, failed whatever – you always have to be on your toes.

Fortunately, Microsoft has a ton of CRM 2011 performance counters that you can use to monitor the performance of various MS Dynamics 2011 components.

These performance counters can be accessed via the Windows Performance Monitor (Start->”perfmon” in search box). Once you have Performance Monitor open, click “Performance Monitor” under “Monitoring Tools” on the left navigation bar, and click the green “+” icon on the toolbar in the main window.

Once you click the “+” icon, you will see a list of available counters. Scroll to the ones that start with “CRM” and expand them if they are collapsed.

Here, you can either select some or all of the performance counters that belong to a certain category (CRM Client in this case), click “Add”, and then “OK”. Now, you should see all the performance counters on the main window.
